About the community

Princess Kahanu Estates is a Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) community made up of 272 lots. One of those lots is licensed to Kamehameha Schools, which operates it as a preschool.

The association itself was created by DHHL under two Hawaii Revised Statutes: HRS 414D, which governs Hawaii non-profit corporations, and HRS 421J, which governs planned community associations. Those two statutes, together with our Declaration, Conditions, Covenants & Restrictions (DCCR), set out what the association can and cannot do.

Day to day, that means a volunteer Board of Directors, an Advisory Committee that supports them, and an office staffed two evenings a week.
