E Kuʻi ʻAi Kākou Sessions
Free family poi-pounding sessions at Princess Kahanu Estates, funded by a DHHL grant. What happens, what to bring, and how to pre-register.
Come and pound poi with us
Princess Kahanu Estates Association is excited to host its first ever kuʻi ʻai (poi making) event, funded by a grant from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL). Come learn and continue the tradition of kuʻi ʻai.
Participants will be taught using traditional Hawaiian implements such as the papa kuʻi ʻai (poi pounding board) and the pōhaku kuʻi ʻai (stone poi pounder), with kalo gathered locally from the ʻāina.
Before you register
- The session itself is free of charge.
- Each participant needs to order and purchase cooked kalo for the event.
- Pre-registration is required for every participant.
- Space is limited to no more than 10 people per session, for everyone's safety.
- Keiki need to be accompanied by an adult.
- CDC and Department of Health guidelines apply at every event.
- Session dates and times may change at short notice.
Because each session is capped at ten people, register early and let the office know as soon as possible if you can no longer make it — that frees the space for another family.
