Why we started a watch

You have told us loud and clear that there are many reports of suspicious, unwanted activity throughout the Princess Kahanu Estates community — prowlers, thefts, property damage and more.

Safety is the top priority in making this a vibrant place to live, especially for our children and our elderly. A Neighborhood Security Watch Committee is a great, effective tool neighbours can use to break the cycle of crime and, in the process, build the community into a safer, friendlier place to live.

What to pass on when you call

• How many people are involved.
• Where the activity is happening — street, lot or landmark.
• Roughly what time you saw it.
• Anything else you noticed from a safe distance: vehicles, direction of travel, clothing.

What a Neighborhood Watch is

A neighborhood watch program is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together, and in conjunction with local law enforcement, to reduce crime and improve their quality of life.

Watch groups hold regular meetings to plan how they will meet their specific goals, with leaders who take on assigned responsibilities.

Neighborhood watch is homeland security at the most local level. It is an opportunity to volunteer and work towards increasing the safety and security of our homes and our homeland. It empowers residents and communities to become active in emergency preparedness as well as in the fight against crime and community disasters.

How to join

If you want to be part of the Princess Kahanu Estates Neighborhood Security Watch, pick whichever of these is easiest for you.

1. Sign up online

   Complete the watch sign-up form at form.jotform.com/210738226515049.

2. Call the office

   Ring (808) 600-5670 and say you would like to join the Neighborhood Security Watch.

3. Email us

   Write to contact@pkea.net with your name and a contact number.

4. Stop by the office

   Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, by appointment.
